APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS/AWARDS

Dr. Gary Armitage, San Francisco, won the American Academy of Periodontology’s Gold Medal Award. Other recipients include Dr. S. Timothy Rose, Appleton, Wis., the Presidential Award; Dr. Gerald Bowers, Pasadena, Md., the Master Clinician Award; and Dr. Fermin Carranza, Los Angeles, the William J. Gies Award. Drs. Richard Bradley, Lincoln, Neb.; Robert Ferris, Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and Gary Greenstein, Freehold, N.J., won Fellowship Awards. Drs. Pamela Berlanga, San Antonio, and Rose won Special Citations.

Dr. Ronald Baughman, Gainesville, Fla., was installed as president of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillo-facial Pathology.

Dr. Donald Warren, Clinton, Ark., was appointed by President Clinton to a White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy.

Dr. William B. Coffman, Redlands, Calif., was elected president of the American Academy of the History of Dentistry. Other elected officers include Dr. D. Keith Savage, Abilene, Texas, president-elect; Dr. Ross Epstein, Newport News, Va., vice president; Dr. Ben Z. Swanson Jr., Baltimore, archivist; and Dr. Jack W. Gottschalk, Cincinnati, member-at-large.

Dr. Richard Fredekind, San Francisco, was appointed dean of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. Other faculty appointed were Dr. Marc Geissberger, Green-brae, Calif.; Dr. Paul Glassman, San Francisco; Dr. Jeffrey S. Kirk, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Dr. Larry Loos, Greenbrae, Calif.

Dr. Richard Garlitz, Hickory, N.C., was installed as president of the Southern Association of Orthodontists. Other elected officers include Dr. Gary Inman, Elizabeth-town, Ky., president-elect; Dr. James Caveney, Wheeling, W.Va., trustee; Dr. David S. Williams, Columbia, Tenn., secretary-treasurer; Dr. Steven G. Garrett, Winchester, Va., third senior director; Dr. Steven J. Smiley, Spartan-burg, S.C., component director from South Carolina; Dr. John C. Pryse Jr., Clinton, Tenn., component director on the board; Dr. Tim S. Trulove, Montgomery, Ala., component director on the board; and Dr. Mark Johnston, Marietta, Ga., delegate-at-large and editor of the SAO News. Dr. Michael Rogers, Augusta, Ga., is immediate past president.

Dr. Deborah Greenspan, Belvedere Tiburon, Calif., is among 66 newly elected members of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine.

Dr. Roger P. Levin, Stevenson, Md., and Dr. Margaret I. Scarlett, Atlanta, were appointed members of the National Museum of Dentistry’s Board of Visitors.

Dr. Carol Ann Stuckey, Metairie, La., was elected president of the Louisiana Association of Orthodontists.
