APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS/AWARDS

Dr. Byron W. Benson, Dallas, was inaugurated as president of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Also elected was Dr. Sharon L. Brooks, Chelsea, Mich., president-elect.

Dr. Susan L. Dietrich, Ocala, Fla., was named assistant director for extramural programs at the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

Dr. Gregory Fauth, Aurora, Ill., was elected president of the Midwest Society of Periodontology. Other officers elected were Dr. William Sorensen, Ann Arbor, Mich., president-elect; Dr. Georgia K. Johnson, Iowa City, Iowa, vice-president; Dr. Timothy Walsh, Berwyn, Ill., secretary; and Dr. Timothy McNamara, Green-field, Wis., treasurer. Dr. Steven Seibert, Champaign, Ill., is immediate past president.

Dr. Stacey Garner, Pulaski, Tenn., received the 2000 Outstanding Alumnus award from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry.

Dr. Lionell Greenberg, Santa Monica, Calif., was elected chair of the Alpha Omega Foundation.

Dr. Kenneth M. Hargreaves, San Antonio, received the Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology Research Award from the International Association for Dental Research.

Dr. Hudson D. Heidorf, Westlake, Ohio, was elected president of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Other officers elected were Dr. John H. Martin, Elko, Nev., president-elect; and Dr. James C. Kessler, Tulsa, Okla., secretary-treasurer.

Dr. Steven Meraw, Rochester, Minn., received the American Association for Dental Research’s William B. Clark Fellowship in Clinical Research sponsored by the Procter & Gamble Co.

Dr. Peter Milgrom, Seattle, received the E.W. Borrow Memorial Award from the Borrow Dental Milk Foundation.

Dr. Paul A. Moore, Pittsburgh, received the Harald Löe Scholar award funded by the Procter & Gamble Co.

Dr. Anthony Picozzi, Ridgewood, N.J., received the American Association for Dental Research’s Jack Hein Public Service Award.

Dr. Edwin S. Rosenberg, Philadelphia, received the Manuel Amador Guerrero Award from the president of Panama.

Dr. Robert A. Saporito, Newark, N.J., was appointed senior vice president for academic affairs for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Dr. Carl E. Schow Jr., Galveston, Texas, received an endowed chair in his name at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Elgene G. Mainous, Galveston, will hold the Schow Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Lucas Stevens, Tallahassee, Fla., was elected president of the Florida Association of Orthodontists. Other officers elected were Dr. William Kochenour, Clearwater, vice president; Dr. Steve Chapman, Palatka, secretary; and Dr. Robert Goldie, Orlando, treasurer. Dr. R.R. Reed, Ocala, is immediate past president.

Dr. Robert L. Waugh, Athens, Ga., was elected president of the Georgia Association of Orthodontists. Other officers elected were Dr. Kenneth E. Starling, Lawrenceville, president-elect; Dr. Gerald A. Smith, Americus, vice president; Dr. Jeffrey Jordan, Alpharetta, secretary-treasurer; Dr. Gary L. Jones, Athens, director; and Dr. Robert Vaught, Savannah, director. Dr. Mark Johnston, Marietta, is immediate past president.

Dr. David A. Whiston, Arlington, Va., was appointed as the ADA’s commissioner to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Other appointees to JCAHO’s professional and technical advisory committees were Dr. Thomas W. Braun, Pittsburgh; Dr. Douglas B. Berkey, Denver; Dr. Sanford J. Fenton, Cordova, Tenn.; Dr. Jeffry E. Persons, Tustin, Calif.; and Dr. Michael S. Strayer, Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Ralph White, Kingsport, Tenn., received the Oren A. Oliver Distinguished Service Award from the Southern Association of Orthodontists.

Dr. Craig Yarborough, San Francisco, was appointed associate dean for institutional advancement at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.

Dr. A. Jeffrey Wood, Richmond, Va., was appointed chair of UOP’s department of pediatric dentistry.
