Dr. Drago is correct that the surgeon must be careful not to place an implant too close to a natural tooth. However, it was felt that in none of these cases was the integrity of the periodontal ligament involved.
There is literature that supports a communication between the tooth and the implant.1 Although a case report alone is not enough information to make final conclusions, I think it raises enough questions that further studies should be performed.
