"Anesthesia for the Dental Visit" is one in a series of patient education pieces. They provide general information on dental treatments and are meant for dentists to use as an aid and patient handout in discussing particular treatments with patients. They are not intended as advice for dentists on the elements of informed consent. Nor do they substitute for the informed consent discussion, which, as Dr. Sloin correctly notes, requires that patients be informed of, among other things, the risks and benefits of recommended treatments.
