APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS/AWARDS

Dr. William J. Byland, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., received the Bernard Harrison Award of Merit from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.

Dr. Glen Cowan Jr., Tuscaloosa, Ala., was elected president of the Alabama Association of Orthodontists. Other officers are Dr. Christy Savage, Trussville, president-elect; Dr. Lew Sample, Decatur, secretary-treasurer; Dr. Stephen Koonce, Florence, northern district representative; and Dr. James Donaghey II, Mobile, component director for 2003. Dr. David Twesme, Florence, is immediate past president.

Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni, Redwood, Calif., received the Award of Excellence in Dentistry from the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Paul Glassman, San Francisco, was elected president of Special Care Dentistry.

Dr. Troy L. Jones, San Antonio, was elected supreme president of Xi Psi Phi International Dental Fraternity. Other officers are Dr. Larry Doyle, Portland, Ore., supreme president-elect; Dr. Keith W. Dickey, Alton, Ill., supreme secretary-treasurer; Dr. Leighton A. Wier, San Antonio, supreme editor; Dr. Penelope S. Yip, Berkeley, Calif., Province I chair; Dr. George Knight, San Antonio, Province IV chair; and Dr. Thomas J. Bonomo, East Northport, N.Y., chair of the Xi Psi Phi Foundation.

Dr. William Lundergan, Pacifica, Calif., received the Distinguished Faculty Award from the University of the Pacific. Dr. Angelle M. Casagrande, Oakland, was appointed assistant program director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program.
