Dr. Lawrence Blank, Gaithersberg, Md., and the late Dr. Deon Carrico, Dana Point, Calif., each won Distinguished Service Awards from the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Rowland A. Hutchinson, Louisville, Ky., was awarded the Weclew Fellowship. Dr. Lorena Surber, Charleston, W.V.; Dr. Jon Hardinger, Mason City, Iowa; and Dr. Thomas Murray, Princeton, Ind., each received an ACE Award of Excellence.
Dr. Arthur Dugoni, Redwood, Calif., received the Distinguished Service Award from the California Association of Orthodonists.
Dr. J. Michael Leary, Washington, Iowa, received the Alumnus of the Year Award from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
Dr. K. William "Buddy" Mopper, Winnetka, Ill., received the Smigel Prize in Aesthetic Dentistry from the New York University College of Dentistry.
Dr. Lee Romine, Nachitoches, La., was elected president-elect of the Louisiana Association of Orthodontists. Other officers are Dr. Hector Maldonado, Metairie, vice-president; and Dr. John B. Whitley Jr., Baton Rouge, secretary-treasurer. Dr. G. Randall Wright, Ruston, is immediate past president.
Dr. Jeffrey C. Socher, Arlington Heights, Ill., received the Distinguished Member Award from the Illinois State Dental Society.
Dr. Leonard S. Tibbetts Jr., Arlington, Texas, received the Gold Medal Award from the American Academy of Periodontology. Other recipients are Dr. Michael Newman, Los Angeles, Presidential Award; and Dr. Bruce L. Pihlstrom, Bethesda, Md., William J. Gies Award. Dr. William F. Ammons Jr., Seattle; Dr. H. Dalton Conner, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Dr. Edwin S. Rosenberg, Philadelphia, each won Fellowship Awards. Dr. Bobby L. Butler, Seattle; Dr. Cheryl L. Townsend, Bellevue, Wash.; Dr. H. Stan Ford, Rocky Mount, N.C.; and Dr. Louis F. Rose, Philadelphia, each won Special Citations.
