We wish to congratulate Dr. Jeffcoat for spotlighting an important development in product commercialization. The formation of an industry advisory board by JADA to encourage industry-practitioner interaction is long overdue.
Such an idea complements the previous efforts by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, or NIDCR, in the area of new product development, in particular the NIDCR- and U.S. Food and Drug Administrationsponsored Dental Oral and Craniofacial Technology Forum held in 1999 and 2001 and the NIDCR- and Dental Manufacturers of Americasponsored Entrepreneurial Venture Fair held in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
The forums were designed to promote academia/industry/government interactions, and the fairs were originated to facilitate industry/inventor interactions.
Having had the opportunity to be involved with these activities and recognizing the myriad number of obstacles that must be overcome to move a discovery from the laboratory to the marketplace, we welcome this new effort by JADA.
