Dr. Stein has been very fortunate not to have had an untoward anesthetic reaction as described in the article in his 28 years of practice. I agree that injection of anesthetic too fast can contribute to any of several side effects. The article did not address how fast the anesthetic was injected because this was not a controlled experiment. This was a clinical article describing a clinical side effect of a single injection.
Dr. Stein refers to a second injection given 30 seconds later. This was not performed clinically in this article, but was part of a reference to an earlier article.1
