Authors’ response

We thank Dr. Croll for his comments and for bringing this oversight to our attention. We sincerely apologize for failing to reference Dr. Simonsen’s significant contributions to the advancement of minimally invasive dentistry, particularly in the area of preventive resin restorations. Dentistry would not have advanced to its current preventive approach without the courage and dedication of pioneers like Dr. Simonsen who dared to question the status quo. We regret that we did not notice this omission before publication.

We should also clarify that the purpose of this "Practical Science" article was to summarize the many aspects of minimally invasive dentistry, updating practitioners on current concepts and emerging technologies in this area, and to stimulate their interest in incorporating this philosophy into their practice if they have not already done so. The intent of this paper was not to detail the historical development of the concept nor to be a comprehensive literature review on the subject.

We regret that we were unable to acknowledge all of the many contributors to this vast body of knowledge. We wish to take this opportunity to thank all those individuals who have been instrumental in developing and spreading the word on these important concepts and technologies, which are improving the way we treat our patients.
