I appreciate Dr. Reichs response and his views. I agree with his desire to accomplish high-quality removable partial prostheses. That objective was the purpose of my column.
I support and encourage him to provide any methods for dentists to provide high-quality removable prostheses. In spite of the attempts of many schools and clinicians, in my opinion, that goal is yet to be achieved for typical practitioners in the United States.
The challenge is making high-quality prostheses at an affordable cost, and making the techniques simple enough that they can be accomplished by practitioners in a reasonable length of time.
My comments in the column call for simplification of the process to achieve high quality. After many years practicing as a prosthodontist, I know that some simplification is possible, and that high quality still can be obtained.
