NEWS

CLARIFICATION

Editor’s note: In August 2004, JADA published a study titled "The antimicrobial potential of 14 natural herbal dentifrices," by Dr. Sean S. Lee and colleagues at Loma Linda University. The study included reference to a "Dental Herb (powder)" or "Dental Herb" produced by Franklin Botanical Laboratory of Northridge, Calif.

Shortly after the study appeared, JADA heard from Dr. Bernard Schechter, founder and president of the Dental Herb Company of Boca Raton, Fla., which manufactures a line of oral hygiene products.

Dr. Schechter expressed concern that readers would confuse his products with the "Dental Herb" described in the article, even though it was stated in the article at each mention that the product in question was produced by Franklin Botanical Laboratory.

We wish to reiterate that the product referenced in the study is produced by Franklin Botanical Laboratory and not the Dental Herb Company of Boca Raton.
