Thank you for the February JADA Practical Science article, "Lasers in Dentistry: Separating Science From Hype," by Drs. Douglas Dederich and Ronald Bushick. I found it to be a balanced, comprehensive and informative view of the subject, and enjoyed reading it very much. As a practitioner who has been involved with dental laser research during the past 15 years, I believe the information in the article was presented in both a thoughtful and insightful manner. I am certain that it will have practical value to the clinician.

Because of the highly complex scientific subject matter that laser technology displays, I know that it is important for research to be conducted in an independent atmosphere, thoroughly grounded in science. I believe that Dr. Dederich has successfully accomplished this fact with his article.
