FOR MEMBERS ONLY
While the new Web environment offers increased security features and advanced functionality for future ADA.org services, it also requires a new mechanism for controlling access to online services and content that are available only to ADA members.
Members are now prompted with a gray login dialog box when attempting to access a members-only resource. In the login dialog box, enter your ADA member number in the "User Name" field and ADA.org password in the "Password" field.
The login dialog also has a check box to "Save this password in your password list." By selecting this option, member number and password information will be filled in automatically for future visits to members-only content, requiring you just to click the "OK" button to visit the desired page.
If youve registered for members-only access in the past, your password has not changed. If youve forgotten your password, contact the ADA Technical Support Center (TSC) via the ADA toll-free number, weekdays 8:30 a.m.5 p.m. Central Standard Time. First-time visitors also will need to contact the TSC to set up a password.
Login is required only once for each browser session. However, each time you close down your Web browser, you will see the login dialog again the next time you attempt to access an ADA.org members-only resource.
The new login procedure applies to all members-only content, including full-text access through JADA Online. However, please note that the login procedures for the Librarys online catalog, the ADA Product Catalog and the ADA Discussion Forum have not changed.
DONATE YOUR USED PDA
Skyscape, a company specializing in mobile services for health care providers, is teaming with charitable organization SATELLIFE to collect used PDAs for distribution to health care providers in remote parts of Africa who are in need of the latest medical information.
Skyscape will load the donated PDAs with approximately 250 references from medical textbooks across many specialties, providing the African doctors with up-to-date information on particular diseases, treatment guidelines and therapeutic agents. Doctors then can update the information any time they have access to the Internet.
"Outside of a few select hospitals, most doctors in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to the latest medical informationwhich is essential for providing the highest quality of medical care," said Holly Ladd, executive director of SATELLIFE. "By providing doctors with the references they need on handheld devices, we can ensure they get out to the clinics and rural areas where they can have the most significant impact."
PDAs must be functioning and not more than three years old with the device cradle (or hot sync cord) and power cord included.
To learn more about how to donate your old handheld device, visit the Skyscape Web site at "www.skyscape.com/aidsday".
The login procedure for gaining access to members-only content on ADA.org changed in December with an upgrade to the software and hardware that power the site.
If youre upgrading your personal digital assistant (PDA) anytime soon, you may want to consider donating your old device for use by a doctor in a developing nation.
