Dr. Lifshey, you are absolutely correct. "Dental insurance" is not truly dental insurance. In my article, I used the term "dental insurance" for the purpose of communicating information. The term commonly is recognized and used by dentists when referring to their interactions with third-party carriers. It is for this reason that I referred to the dental benefits that our patients receive from their employers as "dental insurance."
