Author’s response

I am quite aware of the post design that Dr Papazian mentioned, the ParaPost XT. It is a threaded post offering additional retention, yet it fits passively (cemented) in the root canal, so it doesn’t create a high level of stress.

Since the threads do not actively engage root dentin and fit passively, it is not really a screw post in a strict sense. On the other hand, any post that has threads that engage actively in root dentin will create some degree of stress and have a higher chance of causing root fracture than the nonengaging, passive-fit posts. I am glad that Dr. Papazian has enjoyed a high degree of success with this post system.
