BISPHOSPHONATES

Since the December cover story by Dr. Cesar Migliorati and colleagues, "Managing the Care of Patients With Bisphosphonate-Associated Osteonecrosis: An American Academy of Oral Medicine Position Paper" ( JADA 2005;136:1658–68[Abstract/Free Full Text] ), I have waited in vain for an update, guidance and/or more information. Since the article [appeared], I have suspended performing extractions on patients who have taken bisphosphonates. I have advocated preventive dental treatment before taking the medicines. Can you advise me if more information is available, and if the ADA is taking a leadership role?
