APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS/AWARDS

Dr. Leon Assael, Portland, Ore., has been appointed chairman of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry. Eric Anderson, Portland, Ore., recently joined the school as an assistant professor of restorative dentistry, and Reva Barewal, Portland, Ore., received a Tissue Prostheses Award from the Astra Tech World Congress.

Dr. William Carpenter, San Francisco, received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Richard M. Celko, Pittsburgh, has been elected president of the American Association of Dental Consultants. Other officers are

Dr. Robert Laurenzano, Gaithersburg, Md., president-elect, and Dr. Lawrence Hoffman, St. Louis, secretary-treasurer.

Dr. Joseph Ciccio, Bronxville, N.Y., received the Alumni Medal for Meritorious Service from the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Burton Edelstein, New York City, received the Fones Memorial Medal from the Connecticut Dental Society.

Dr. Caswell Evans, Chicago, was appointed to the State of Illinois Board of Health by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and was elected president-elect of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry.

Dr. Michael Finkelstein, Iowa City, Iowa, received the 2006 President’s Award from the Iowa Dental Association.

Dr. Richard Haught, Tulsa, Okla., received a 2005 Council’s Choice Award from the ADA’s Council on Access, Prevention and Interprofessional Relations.

Dr. Donald R. Joondeph, Bellevue, Wash., was elected president of the American Association for Orthodontists. Other officers are Dr. William C. Gaylord, Flagstaff, Ariz., president-elect, and Dr. Raymond George Sr., East Providence, R.I., secretary-treasurer.

Dr. Paul Moore, Pittsburgh, has been named chair of the department of anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry.

Dr. Linda Otis, Baltimore, received the T.H. Maiman Award for excellence in dental laser research from the Academy of Laser Dentistry, and Dr. Donald J. Coluzzi, San Francisco, received the Distinguished Service Award.
