CORRECTIONS

Information was omitted from the February JADA cover story, "Neurological Outcomes in Children With and Without Amalgam-Related Mercury Exposure: Seven Years of Longitudinal Observations in a Randomized Trial," by Lauterbach and colleagues (JADA 2008;139[2]:138–145). One of the authors reported disclosures that were not published. Jorge Leitão, MD, reported being principal investigator for a clinical research project at the biomaterials laboratory of the University of Lisbon, Portugal, that is supported by Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Lichtenstein. None of the products used in that investigation were discussed in the February article. Dr. Leitão reported personally receiving no direct compensation from this contract between Ivoclar Vivadent and the University of Lisbon.

The News section of the March issue of JADA contained an error. The correction notice regarding conflicts of interest held by authors of articles in supplements to JADA was incomplete. Several authors of the supplement to the January issue of JADA, "Preventing Infective Endocarditis: An Update of Revised Guidelines for Antibiotic Prophylaxis From the American Heart Association," had reported disclosures. Those appear below.

Christopher H. Cabell, MD, MHS, is a consultant for Gloucester Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge, Mass.; Shire Pharmaceuticals, Chineham Basingstoke, Hampshire, United Kingdom; Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Lexington, Mass.; CarboMedics, Austin, Texas; GlaxoSmithKline, Philadelphia; Acusphere, Watertown, Mass.; Endo Pharmaceuticals, Chadds Ford, Pa.; Eli Lilly, Indianapolis; Watson Pharmaceuticals, Corona, Calif.; and Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J.

David T. Durack, MD, PhD, is the senior vice president, Corporate Medical Affairs, Becton, Dickinson and Company, Franklin Lake, N.J. He also serves on the Joint Commission Resources Board, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.

David Goff, MD, PhD, FAHA, serves as a consultant to Spriggs & Hollingsworth, Washington; Scientific Evidence, Houston; and GlaxoSmithKline, Philadelphia.

Matthew Levison, MD, serves as a consultant to Merck, Whitehouse Station, N.J.

Thomas Pallasch, DDS, MS, provides consultation and expert witness testimony regarding endocarditis.

Brian L. Strom, MD, holds a research grant from Pfizer, New York City, and receives other research support from Merck, Whitehouse Station, N.J.; Novartis, Basel, Switzerland; Wyeth, Madison, N.J.; and Pfizer. He also serves as a consultant to Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, Ill.; GlaxoSmithKline, Philadelphia; Eli Lilly, Indianapolis; Pfizer; Sanofi Pasteur, Lyon, France; Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J.; Schering AG, Berlin; TAP Pharmaceutical Products, Lake Forest, Ill.; and Wyeth.

Masato Takahashi, MD, FAHA, holds a grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging, New York City.

The March JADA article by Oong and colleagues ("The Effect of Dental Sealants on Bacteria Levels in Caries Lesions: A Review of the Evidence," JADA 2008;139[3]: 271–278) contained two errors.

In the Results section of the abstract (page 271), the "100-fold" should have been "1,000-fold," and the sentence should have read thus: "Sealing caries was associated with a 1,000-fold reduction in mean total VBC (four studies, 138 samples)."

In the Results section of the text (page 273), the next-to-last sentence of the second paragraph should read, "Three studies used polymerized, resin-based sealant (RBS),14,15,17 two used autopolymerized RBS16,18 and one used both glass-ionomer cement (GIC) and ultraviolet light–polymerized RBS.19"

A subhead was misplaced in the March JADA article "Direct Pulp Capping With Mineral Trioxide Aggregate: An Observational Study," by Bogen and colleagues (JADA 2008; 139[3]:305–315). The subhead "Discussion," instead of appearing before the paragraph that begins, "Radiographic assessment of teeth that had open apexes," should have been placed before the next paragraph, which begins, "Although there were only a small number of cases ...."
